Lars Hellsten, born 1933, is a Swedish glass artist. Hellsten was a designer at Skruf's glassworks 1964–1972 and from 1972 at Orrefors glassworks.
He has made several public decorations, including for hotels and hospitals.
In 1896, it was fully built in the small community Skruv. The following year, a glassworks was completed.
The site of Skruf's glassworks was well thought out by the founder Robert Celander. He wanted to take advantage of the railway that came into place in 1874.
Then the train could transport heavy sand to the glassworks that was needed to make glass mass, but also to transport the finished glass in large wooden boxes.
In the area there was plenty of forest that was used very much to heat the glass furnaces.
The glassworks was inaugurated on Saturday, April 10, 1897. The priest was present to give a cabin sermon, and after that a big party awaited.
From the 1950s, several famous artists have designed glass at Skruf. In the past, it was common for the cab masters themselves to be the designers of the glass that was manufactured.
Tableware for households has long been an important part of Skruf's production. In the 1940s, production focused more on restaurant glass.
When demand fell for tableware glass, Skrufs began to focus more on decorative glass.
Exports have been large for a long time, not least to England.
