Honey with saffron
Đäknegården's Grandmother Sara's Cake Jar
The honey I mix the saffron with varies according to the season and the bees' access to flowers, it marries particularly well with a mild canola and dandelion honey.
The honey never tastes exactly the same, but is always delicious! The honey is cold-pressed and a craft that is made with love for the bees, the environment and the raw materials.
The saffron is dried pistils from the crocus flower Crocus sativius, all saffron is picked by hand. It takes 200,000 flowers to produce 1kg of saffron.
Thank you for helping us pollinate Sweden by buying Swedish honey, you are a real steward of the planet, congratulations!!
In Lidköping, you almost always found my grandmother in the kitchen with an apron and rolled up sleeves. Cakes were baked in abundance; brown breads, jitterbugs, beef cakes, coconut tops, currant and oat cakes among many.
Saffron buns for Advent were as obvious as amen in church.
Honey with saffron is really good with warm, sweet tones and a slight pleasant bitterness.
Delicious with blue cheese, rice porridge,
yogurt, plates, chaite and warm milk. Must try!
