NORDIC CHOCOLATE
Our handmade bean-to-bar chocolate Nordic Chocolate is manufactured in our chocolate factory in Umeå. Cocoa comes from organic cooperatives in South and Central America from people we have come to know over the years. We peel, rust and stone tempers fine aromatic cocoa beans in a gentle process for preserving cocoa's antioxidants and unique taste.
We season with Nordic berries and healing plants that have been dried and ground locally, such as field berries that are only found in the Arctic zone. We developed an innovative freeze dryer to be able to refine local berries in a sustainable way. This is Sweden's first fossil -free freeze dryer and draws about 75% less energy than conventional dryers. Another innovative project we run is the extraction of antioxidants from the cocoa peel with super -critical carbon dioxide.
Over the years, we have been awarded a variety of international awards for our chocolate. However, what we are most proud of is our solid sustainability work in both ecological and social sustainability. In our production we work circularly with both raw materials and packaging. We strive for minimal spillage and take advantage of residual streams. The inner package consists of cellulose from potatoes and beetroot. The outer package is made of recycled paper and certified FSC.
